Seeq Drives Progress Toward Sustainability Initiatives
With a new Microsoft certification and joint solution announced this year, Seeq continues to support customers’ missions to reduce their impact on the environment
Despite a deluge of pledges to reduce their environmental impact, many organizations are still questioning where to begin and how to measure success. This starts with tackling the obstacles of accessing disparate data sources, as well as cleansing and contextualizing the data, which prevent them from creating and acting on insights to increase operational efficiency and reduce emissions.
To combat these challenges, Seeq has focused on enhancing its software with AI, machine learning and other capabilities and leveraging partnerships to power a range of use cases to drive sustainability progress, including analyzing ESG performance against goals, minimizing the environmental impact of facilities, and enabling regulatory reporting.
Seeq receives Microsoft ISV Solution Sustainability Industry Certification
Seeq recently received the Microsoft ISV Solution Sustainability Industry Certification. This certification recognizes Seeq for delivering business and technical capabilities that accelerate sustainability progress for customers across the process industries. With Seeq on Microsoft Azure, customers have made significant strides on their sustainability journeys, including:
SBM Offshore
After producing over five million tons of CO2 equivalent emissions in 2020 (less than 0.2% of the total industrial emissions that year), SBM Offshore, a leader in the offshore energy sector, launched its Emission Zero program in 2022, pledging to reduce emissions by 50% per barrel produced by 2030. As part of the program, SBM implemented Seeq on Microsoft Azure to empower its engineers to better understand their emissions data and discover new insights. Key focus areas include:
- Impact Reporting: Engineers developed analyses and reporting in Seeq, which quantify the environmental impacts of each flaring event as well as identify areas of improvement.
- Cargo Venting Quantification: Emissions from cargo venting were difficult to quantify and track in near real time in the past. The team developed a calculation methodology in Seeq that automates and provides calculation consistency while increasing awareness of the contribution cargo venting makes to overall emissions.
- Realtime Fleetwide Emissions Tracking: Using Seeq, the team developed fleetwide emissions calculations and reporting, raising the visibility of SBM’s emissions footprint and illustrating the progress toward reducing overall emissions.
Chevron
Chevron sought to automate their regulatory compliance reporting for greenhouse gas emissions across their refineries. To automate this workflow, the company’s SMEs leveraged Seeq on Microsoft Azure to access data from refinery historians and apply calculations and contextualization for quarterly regulatory emissions reporting. Extensibility features within Seeq enabled the SMEs to build a custom solution for extracting final emissions data, formatting it for direct ingestion into their corporate greenhouse gas reporting software.
With automatic calculations and real-time updates that incorporate the latest data, the company cut analysis time from more than two days to only a few hours. More importantly, the up-to-date and readily available emissions performance information has enabled the company to take a proactive approach to emissions identification, resulting in emissions prevention in some instances, rather than hindsight reporting.
Seeq Solution for Microsoft Sustainability Manager
In April 2023, Seeq announced the Seeq Solution for Microsoft Sustainability Manager. With the solution, the Microsoft Cloud for Sustainability data model is incorporated into the Seeq workflow for consistency of emissions data. Process experts leverage Seeq’s live data connectivity and auditable data cleansing and contextualization capabilities to enrich their time series emissions data, reducing manual data preparation time by up to 80 percent. Sustainability teams can seamlessly access this contextualized data within Microsoft Sustainability Manager to track direct (Scope 1) and indirect (Scope 2) emissions for reports and to set and track accurate emissions reduction goals.
“Seeq adds value to our mutual customers by integrating their solutions with Microsoft Cloud for Sustainability,” says Dominik Wee, CVP, Manufacturing and Mobility Industry, Microsoft. “The Seeq Solution for Microsoft Sustainability Manager addresses a variety of pain points related to emissions’ data availability recording, reporting and reduction and enables customers to accelerate the success of their sustainability initiatives.”
